Fundación Jesús Divino Preso
About the institution
Jesus Divino Preso is an Ecuadorian Foundation dedicated to rescuing children from prisons, where by circumstances they are confined with their parents. They receive the children in a temporary home and provide them with a warm, nurturing atmosphere while their parents serve their sentences.
The vision to Jesus Divino Preso is to provide children who would otherwise live in prison with love, care, and a formal education, and above all, a window of opportunity.
They offer hospice to kids and youth at "Maite de Crespo" who is located south of Quito, Ecuador. It was built in 2001. The home has 5 houses, each with 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, kitchen/dining room, small social areas, out door laundry and yard. In each house live 8 children accompanied by a surrogate mother, an "Aunt". The staff include both full and part time personal at the service of the children: Director, Administrator, Psychologist, Educator, Social Worker, Aunts (home mothers), Doctor, Accountant, Advisory Legal, Cook, Guard, Auxiliary of kitchen, Auxiliary of maintenance, Commissions of Support, and Volunteers.
Description of the work
You will work at the hospice helping the "aunts" with daily duties and attend the kids. You will help them out with homework, participate in their activities, playing and having fun with the kids. At the moment approximately 42 kids live at the hospice.
Keep in mind
You are going to work with kids who very fast make strong bonds, and with kids who are very vulnerable. They will miss you and feel sad if you don't show up to work and it is important that you with anticipation tell them when you are going to leave. Clue words in your work are respect and confidence. The work will contain a lot of laughter and joy but it is important that you as an adult are responsible and that you fulfill your accomplishment and that you behave as a good example for the kids.
Time: Minimum two months.
Monday to Friday 9.00 - 17.00
The time schedule is flexible and you are able to figure out a convenient time schedule together with the director of the hospice. However, it is preferable that you work in the afternoons, when the majority of children come back from school.
