About the institution
The foundation was created in 1990. Its mission is to contribute to sustainable human development in Ecuador and to the improvement of the quality of life of the poor and to the construction of a democratic, responsible and solidarity-based society. Fundacion Esquel is a private foundation, detached from any political or religious affiliation. Their work has 2 important axis: Fighting poverty and the strengthening of democracy.
Esquel supports and executes projects within 4 areas:
- Development and equality (sustainable tourism, migration, social inclusion, local government strengthening, decentralization, etc.)
- Democracy (justice reformation, citizen formation, education, consensus, etc.)
- Kids and youth (improving opportunities for youth in education, employment, sexual and reproductive health, technology, etc.)
- Enterprise Development (micro-business, micro-finances, access to micro-credits, etc.)
Description of the work
Fundacion Esquel needs volunteers willing to help in any of these 3 programs:
Institutional Development Program
Your activities will be at the office, and they include: investigation, assistance in project planning, data updating, finding funds and maintaining a good relationship with donors, translations, among others.
Sustainable Tourism Program
You can teach English to rural communities that make a living out of tourist-related activities and also be a translator for tourists.
Rural Schools
Visits in order to monitor the activities at the Educative Centers, realization of workshops related to Children and Youth Rights and workshops about how to use didactic materials that are given to schools.
Keep in mind
Institutional Development Program
You need to have knowledge about Social Sciences and an advanced level of Spanish and have very good writing and communicative skills. You would work at Esquel’s office located in Quito.
Sustainable Tourism Program
You need to have an advanced level of English and some experience with regards to teaching the language. You will live with a family of the community.
Rural Schools
You need to have studies in Pedagogy, Sociology or children psychology; have an advanced level of English and be willing to visit some communities around the country.
Time:

Minimum 6 months. Daily hours can be flexible. 5 days per week.
