Horse and Dog´s therapy
About the institution
This project was created in 1995. Its main objective is to offer rehabilitation and integral recreation programs through therapies with horses, for children, youth and adults with mental or physical disabilities.
Riding therapy or hipotherapy (with horses)and Canotherapy ( with dogs) is recongnized worlwide as an effective method for physical, mental and/or emotional rehabilitation. It transmits the patient a sense of balance, coordination, orientation and ryhm. The movement of the back of the horse is used therapeutically.
Hipotherapy uses horses as therapeutic instuments and prepares the patient for other physiotherapeutic functions, but offers huge psicological benefits.
Description of the work
To manage the horses during the therapies, 3 or 4 people are necessary, so volunteers are very welcome to help with: feeding the horses, preparing them for each therapy session, general tasks during the therapy, cleaning the horses after the sessions. In addition, the volunteer can also help in the horse-back riding lessons for general public and in the administrative area and garden maintenance.
In adittion during the afternoons you can also be part of the Therapies with dogs.
Time: The volunteer needs to complete at least 20 hours per week, and with a minimum stay of 1 month.
Board and Lodging: Lodging - Host Families or Shared accommodation in apartments with other volunteers, shared bathroom and kitchen.
